Waxaa la yidhi is the largest collection of Somali folktales ever published. It contains 217 folklore texts, a part of which has been collected by the author. The cycles about the cruel queen Arrawelo, the clever but unbridled chieftain Wil-Wal, the cowardly Igal Shidad, the rascally Yonis Tug, the wise Siad Deryo Dobe and the just Ina Sanweyne are published for the first time. In the Introduction the literary characteristics of Somali folktales and their main types are discussed.
